Life just a long sentence?

No warning, no preparation The Doctor??s word hung dead in the air you have ???Parkinson??s disease PD??? . I had no idea about what he was talking about. And the doctor kept silent- that was the beginning of my journey that I have traveled for the past of three years????.. Why are we unfairly treated?Lord is not treated us fairly? Is it a shame for the medical world?

Do you agree that Parkinson??s progression with time? Despite there are new medications i.e one, second and third lines for Parkinson??s treatment there are still no way to stop it??s progression with time. Is it a shame for the medical world? I agree that PD does progress with time, with a disclaimer. If one does nothing but take the meds, and essentially ???gives in?? PD will progress much faster. If one exercises, eats well balanced meals, keeps a positive attitude and takes the meds, it will no

SXSWi 2008: A Recap

For the second straight year, I attended the South By Southwest Interactive SXSWi festival. This trip was much different than the last for many reasons. Last year, I must admit, the main goal was getting my name out there so I could find a position doing more SXSW-y type things. This year, I??ve got that gig. I was there to network, learn, and spread the word about our product, BatchBook. Last year, I dragged my laptop and camera everywhere, blogging like crazy. This year, I carried an iPho

Is there still life after PD?

Giving and serving others will bring much happiness than receiving and being served. Therefore there is still life after PD. You will no longer be alone. Absolutely correct Teo. I have found this to be true in my own life. It is pure wisdom taught by Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, etc. etc.???This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you???.Jack jack very well put?? I am learning not to always think of me and where I am at with PD, but to be thinking of others and what they need

My Latest Story: PatientsLikeMe in NYT Magazine

Tomorrow??s New York Times Magazine has a story I wrote on PatientsLikeMe, the innovative patient community. The company, I believe, is doing some powerful things: 1 It??s making a bold call for Openness with our medical and health information, arguing that this information is more powerful out and shared and aggregated than locked up and protected. 2 It is an emerging research tool, allowing patients to gather together and consolidate their sometimes anecdotal subjective experience with d

Social network wars are over

From the always perceptive Paul Gillin: Social Network Wars are Over. If you??re sitting on the sidelines waiting for the market to pick winners in the social network race, you can stand up now. Hitwise data for 2007 shows that MySpace and Facebook together accounted for 88% of all visits to social network sites. The next closest competitor, Bebo , got a little more than 1% of the traffic. There simply is no more competition in the general-purpose social network market. Other social m

New social networking for the ill dubbed ???Myspace for the afflicted???

A new social networking site looks a lot like Myspace, but is specifically designed for people suffering from major medical problems. I found the site, patientslikeme.com, after reading an article critiquing the site, by New York Times writer, Thomas Goetz. Goetz writes about one man suffering from MS who used the site to see what kinds of treatments other MS patients were taking and in doing so found out that something his doctor told him about the maximum dosage of a drug he was taking, may n

IS PD a ???No Hope??? illness?

Despite vast improvement in PD treatment there are many reasons that some patients are still plain ignorance. They consider PD to be ???no hope??? illnessand whither away slowly. they lack of fighting spirit born fighter as they cannot accept the fact they cannot live a normal life as other healthy people. They feel embarrassed and isolate themselves from the community as some people in the society regards PD as being??? crippled???. I don??t think it is fair to say people lack a fighting spirit or

New York Times on PatientsLikeMe.com

But PatientsLikeMe seeks to go a mile deeper than health-information sites like WebMD or online support groups like Daily Strength. The members of PatientsLikeMe don??t just share their experiences anecdotally they quantify them, breaking down their symptoms and treatments into hard data. They note what hurts, where and for how long. They list their drugs and dosages and score how well they alleviate their symptoms. All this gets compiled over time, aggregated and crunched into tidy bar graphs

A sudden surge of interest in old disease and publicity?

Is PD a reason to be single?

skip to main skip to side Sunday, March 9, 20 There are 15% of PD patients who are diagnosed to have PD before the age of 40 years, some of them still be single. Therefore marriage is a very delicate issue in PD. It is a tough decision to make. Teo, the perspective on marriage is very cultural and very complex. It is not clear if you are referring to sexual problems or the need to be cared for physically. Neither should be a hindrance if two people are truly in love. It is true they
